Main problem of piston ring failure is due to the loss of tension/seizure at low running hours 3-4,000.

This is possible due to excess carbon deposits getting in ring grooves and inhibiting ring movement.

MP-4 used to help speed up rate of combustion and reduce piston carbonaceous deposits. MP-4 dosage 1:3000 injected during fuel transfer to settling tank.

No fuel spec. available as they did not have the fuel analysed but mainly bunkered in Rotterdam.

Main problems were caused by burning relatively high MCR fuels causing scavenge air port fouling and excessive deposits under the piston.

This engine used Bycosin’s MFD 1100 dispersant dosed to bunker tanks at 1:20,000 to stabilize and homogenize the fuel and disperse asphaltenes giving better atomization and more complete combustion.

Fuel spec: Fuel usually bunkered in Persian Gulf and US Gulf.

MP-4 used to help speed up the rate of combustion and reduce acidic corrosion by inhibiting formation of SO₃. MP-4 dosage was 1:3,000 injected during fuel transfer to settling tank.
